Making Maya
tells the intimate story of a high school senior’s
coming-of-age as she confronts the challenges of love
and life after graduation.
SYNOPSIS
Maya (Amy Minderhout), a beautiful high
school graduate, dreams of a career in basketball.
Along with her best friend Mars (Desmond Faison), she
trains like there's no tomorrow. However, with an
alcoholic mother (Sam Gros), an unsuccessful dating
life, and many denied basketball scholarships, Maya
finds herself at a low point in her life.
With the help of Mars, Maya decides to
enter with him a local hoops contest that could
possibly be the break she needs. But then, her life
takes a turn with the arrival of Sam (Sara Taylor), a
sexy college girl who sparks unexpected desires of
romance and sexuality in Maya.
As Maya spends more time with Sam, her
practicing sessions with Mars start to slack, putting
the basketball contest and her life's dream at risk.
To complicate matters further, Mars reveals his secret
crush on her, prompting Maya to make some serious
decisions about love, life and basketball.
This tender and delicately
weaved story provides a close and down-to-earth look
at a young woman’s journey of self-realization, and
comes most alive with the memorable soundtrack that
Arab-American writer and director Rolla Selbak,
notably, composed several of its catchiest tunes.
